M2TS to MP4 converter
Blu-ray rips, AVCHD camcorder folders (BDMV/STREAM) and some TV recorders store video as .m2ts, which phones, Premiere Rush and most upload forms reject.
Fast: the video is copied untouched and only the audio is converted.
What happens to your M2TS
M2TS is an MPEG transport stream with 4-byte timestamps per packet. H.264 video is copied straight into MP4; AC-3, DTS or LPCM audio is converted to AAC so it plays everywhere. MPEG-2 or VC-1 video (older Blu-rays, broadcast) is re-encoded to H.264.
Tip: A Blu-ray STREAM folder holds many numbered .m2ts files. The largest one is usually the main film; use Merge videos to join split camcorder clips.
How to convert M2TS to MP4
- Drop your M2TS file on the box above, or tap it to pick one. The engine (about 31 MB) loads once per visit.
- The converter reads the file's streams and shows which codecs are inside.
- Keep the defaults, or pick a quality and resolution.
- Press the button, wait for the progress bar, then download your MP4.
Prefer the command line?
This is the FFmpeg command the converter runs for a typical M2TS (h264 + ac3). Paste it into a terminal with FFmpeg installed for batch jobs or files too big for a browser tab:
ffmpeg -y -i input.mts -map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0 -sn -dn -c:v copy -c:a aac -b:a 160k -movflags +faststart output.mp4Video is copied; only audio is re-encoded. Your own file may contain different codecs; the converter above detects them and adapts. For other jobs, ask the FFmpeg command helper.
Questions
Is M2TS the same as MTS?
Yes, same container. AVCHD cameras show .MTS on the card and .m2ts once imported by some software. Both convert the same way.
Can I convert a protected Blu-ray M2TS?
No. Commercial discs are encrypted (AACS); the converter only reads unencrypted files such as camcorder footage or your own discs.
Is my M2TS file uploaded?
No. The M2TS is read from your device by FFmpeg running as WebAssembly in the page, and the MP4 is written back to your device. No server ever receives it.
Is there a size limit for M2TS to MP4?
We set none. The practical limit is browser memory: roughly 2 GB of output on a computer, and much less on phones.
