What happens to your AVI

DivX/Xvid (MPEG-4 Part 2) and MJPEG video are re-encoded to H.264, and MP3/PCM audio to AAC. H.264-in-AVI is remuxed.

Tip: AVI files from digital cameras are often MJPEG and enormous; H.264 typically shrinks them by 80% or more at similar visual quality.

Questions

My AVI has no sound after converting.

Some AVIs use rare audio codecs. Check the log panel for the audio codec name; most are decoded, but a few proprietary ones are not.

Is my AVI file uploaded?

No. The AVI is read from your device by FFmpeg running as WebAssembly in the page, and the MP4 is written back to your device. No server ever receives it.

Is there a size limit for AVI to MP4?

We set none. The practical limit is browser memory: roughly 2 GB of output on a computer, and much less on phones.
