What happens to your MP4

The video track is dropped and the audio is encoded with the LAME MP3 encoder (VBR, about 190 kbps by default, or pick 128/192/320 kbps).

Tip: If you just want the original audio with zero quality loss, choose M4A: most MP4 audio is AAC and is copied as-is.

What bitrate should I choose?

128 kbps is fine for speech, 192 kbps or VBR for music, 320 kbps if you will edit it further.

Is my MP4 file uploaded?

No. The MP4 is read from your device by FFmpeg running as WebAssembly in the page, and the MP3 is written back to your device. No server ever receives it.

Is there a size limit for MP4 to MP3?

We set none. The practical limit is browser memory: roughly 2 GB of output on a computer, and much less on phones.
